March Meeting Minutes

Parent Meeting
(March 3, 2009)


CALL TO ORDER
The regular business meeting for Lincoln Park Co-op Just Walkers was called to order by VP/Co-chair, Tami Aidlin on March 3, 2009 at 7:10 pm.

ATTENDANCE
Tami Aidlin, Cami MacDonald, Dawna Dennis, Kelly Brusa, Julie Pietsch, Sara Carter, Karrie Riemer, Wendy Personett, Eric Newman, Laurel Taylor, Jennifer Hedge, Dulce Carrillo, Kate Kowal, Natalie Blackburn & Jessy Beardemphl

MINUTES
Dawna motioned to approve February minutes. Motion was carried, minutes were approved with no change.

Teacher Assignments were available for review, they were also posted on the blog.

PARENT INSTRUCTOR'S REPORT:
  • Open registration is now under way. The parents who submitted self-addressed stamped envelopes, Connie will return to you
  • Parents filled out Spring registration forms, due now
  • Connie shared the Spring Seminar list with parents. CPR class will be held Monday, March 23rd
PARENT EDUCATION
Early Literacy was the Parent Education Topic presented. When you read to your kids make it fun and interesting. If you push your kids, sometimes they don't want to read. Each parent brought in their kids favorite book. We discussed each of the books and what our kid likes about them. Tami will post titles and authors on the blog.

Eric Newman also notified the parents of Heather's work in Early Literacy. If you have any questions about Early Literacy, you can contact Heather or Connie.

TEACHER’S REPORT
  • The March curriculum was sent and will be posted on blog; let Sara know if you have changes
  • For the auction, our class project will be trivets. Sara verified the glass could handle hot things. The kids will be making the trivets in the next few weeks
  • If the parents would like to submit art for the original works fundraiser, it should be 8x10 1/2 on white paper, no glitter or corporate logo/characters. The art and order form should be submitted by March 11
  • Special Persons Night will be held for parents or caregivers (aunties or grandparents) that are not able to come to preschool during the day, but would like to experience preschool. It was decided by the group that it will be on Monday, March 16 from 6 to 7:30pm. Kids can wear their pajamas if they would like. There will be free play that night, no stations or discussion group, just pure fun! Due to Special Persons Night, there will be no class on Wednesday, March 18th
PARENT EDUCATION and PROGRAM EVALUATIONS
Tami requested the parents fill out the evaluations for Connie and return to her in hard or soft copies. Please have Parent Education evaluations in by March 11 and the Program Evaluations by April 1.

BOARD MEETING
  • Tami thanked the parents for their participation with the evaluations. She will drop in upcoming discussion groups to give the class a summary of the results from Sara's evaluations
  • Dori has been voted as new 2's teacher, and Heidi will move on to the 4's group
  • Tami reported that the board has re-evaluated the hall bathroom cleaning schedule and the bathrooms will be cleaned once a week to help control the smell
  • Tami reported the final date for the auction is April 14. Exact time will be announced as soon as the agenda has been finalized
  • Tami volunteered the JW class to bring beverages (no alcohol) for the auction night. She will post a sign-up list on the blog
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES

PAC
  • Natalie reminded parents of upcoming Marionettes Puppets Please fundraiser, which will take place on March 28th at 9:30 am and 10:30 am. Tickets are $5 in advance from Natalie or $7 at the door (kids under 1 are free). The program is 45 minutes long and is geared for young children. Parents are encouraged to tell friends and family to get the word out.
Fundraising
  • T-Shirt/tote orders (15$ each) and checks are due March 11
  • Jen informed us of the upcoming consignment sale for kids stuff on Saturday, May 9 (9am to 2pm) at Seaview United Methodist Church; Volunteers will be needed. (The sale may include a Bake Sale, TBD)
  • April 14 is the final date for the auction; the goal for the year is $8400 and so far we've raised $2100
  • Each class will have their own cashier. Laurel will be the cashier for JW. Only cash and checks will be accepted for the auction items.
PCC & Safeway Scrip
Dawna reminded the parents that they can register a Safeway card to give 1% back of what is spent to Lincoln Park Co-op. Go to the Safeway website and register your card. PCC gift cards are available for $25, 5% will go back to our Co-op. The PCC card can be renewed with any dollar amount.

Scholastics
Cami said the next order will be in April. The catalogs will be available the first week of class in April.

Assistant Treasurer Report
March tuition due

Meals for Dawna & Family - awaiting arrival of new baby. Tami will post sign-up list on blog for parents to volunteer to bring food on Wednesdays at school, or Sundays at their home.

Karrie told the group that a professional photographer will be at school on April 29 for class photos.

Important Dates
  • Original Works - art due March 11
  • T-Shirt/tote orders due March 11
  • Parent Educator Evaluations due March 11
  • Special Person Night - Monday, March 16 (6 to 7:30pm)
  • No school on March 18 due to Special Person Night.
