Parent education Topic presented
Connie talked about the typical one year old behavior and passed out the handout, “Guidance and Discipline—Parenting Styles”. She said we should aim to be proactive parent.
Connie then passed a handout, “The Three Ways of Overindulging”. She mentioned that a study was done on adults who were “overindulged as kids”. They were asked what was most harmful or had the most impact to them now as adults. They responded that too soft of structure and not doing chores had the biggest negative impact on their lives.
Connie talked about the typical two year old behavior and referred to it as the “rubber band years”. Two year olds are living in tension and are looking for the cause and effect. She reminded us that sometimes what looks like defiance can often be an act of seeking independence and that they can’t always stop themselves from what they do.
Discussion Group
Julie passed out our schedule. She explained for the first two weeks of November, we are going to split into groups by child’s age. She would like feedback on how that is working and then we can try splitting into groups by children with siblings vs. without. We went around the room and discussed what our child likes to do at Co-op.
Just Walker’s schedule:
Free choice for 30 minutes.
Parents go to their station and group discussion parents go to the corner in the music room.
If your child is in the climber room, do not leave until there are two parents working at that station.
Parents will be in their work station for 30 minutes.
